National Seed Swap Day encourages gardeners of all levels to gather together and swap seeds of their favorite varieties. Seed swaps bolster biodiversity, build community, and are just plain fun! This upcoming year, National Seed Swap Day takes place on January 31, 2026.

In celebration of National Seed Swap Day, Seed Savers Exchange is joining forces with the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, Iowa, to host a seed swap on Saturday, January 31, 2026. This in-person event is free and open to the public. While bringing seeds to share is encouraged, it is not a requirement! We will also have seeds from our seed bank available for distribution! Head to our event page for more information.

Our seed swap will take place in Decorah, which is in northeast Iowa. If you are not local or unable to travel, we encourage you to find a seed swap in your community—or even host your own! Learn how to organize a seed swap here.
